ESPN
on Dominic Rhodes Raiders RB Rhodes was suspended
Tuesday for the first 4 games of the season for violating
the league's substance abuse policy. The league does not
disclose reasons for substance abuse suspensions, but
Rhodes pleaded guilty in the offseason to reckless driving
charges in Indiana after prosecutors agreed to drop drunken
driving charges against him. Rhodes, who spent his six
years in Indianapolis, signed a two-year contract in the
offseason with the Raiders that could be worth up to $7.5
million. He is expected to split time with last year's
starter LaMont Jordan as the Raiders try to improve a
running game that averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2006.
Because of the suspension, Rhodes will forfeit $352,941 of
his scheduled $1.5 million base salary for 2007.

on Dominic Rhodes: Rhodes, 28, signed a two-
year contract with the Raiders on Friday, a deal worth up
to $7.5 million with $1 million guaranteed. He leaves the
Super Bowl XLI champions to try to improve the Raiders'
rushing offense, which ranked 29th in the NFL after
averaging 94.9 yards last season. Rhodes joins center
Jeremy Newberry as the Raiders' second free-agent addition
this week.

New York Daily News
on Dominic Rhodes: It took RB Rhodes a
little longer than expected to get to Giants Stadium last
night. Now the Giants are hoping to convince him to stay
for a while. Rhodes, one of the stars of Super Bowl XLI,
finally landed in New Jersey late yesterday after several
hours of weather delays, according to his agent, and the
Giants were expected to make a big push to sign him before
he leaves today. And that's just the start of new GM Jerry
Reese's aggressive approach to the free-agent market, which
has included pitches to Cardinals left tackle Leonard Davis
and Steelers linebacker Joey Porter.

Dayton Daily News
on Dominic Rhodes: Coming off a
magnificent performance in the postseason and Super Bowl,
all of that is expected to change for the undrafted running
back out Midwestern State. Rhodes is set to become an
unrestricted free agent when free agency begins March 3 and
folks will soon find out just how valuable this guy is.
There is a good chance that an integral part of the Colts
offense this season could be missing from the well-oiled
machine next season when free agency hits.

Indianapolis Star
on Dominic Rhodes: Most of the attention
has focused on veteran RB Rhodes and rookie Joseph Addai,
two players being asked to make Colts fans forget Edgerrin
James. Neither player has disappointed. Rhodes is embracing
his opportunity to be the #1 TB. He has run with authority
and a burst, and shown good hands in the passing game. Same
with Addai. What's been impressive about the first-round
draft pick has been his poise and apparent grasp of the
complex offense. If he doesn't get it, he's hiding it well.

17APR06
Indianapolis Star
on Dominic Rhodes: RB Rhodes made a
strong first impression in '01 as Edgerrin James' temporary
replacement. The prevailing question is whether the Colts'
perennial backup running back can make a lasting impression
in '06 as James' successor. "I'm ready to go out there and
roll," Rhodes said. "I'm ready to help this team reach what
we didn't reach last year. "I'm getting ready to have a
very productive season and show everybody who thinks
because Edge is gone we're going to have a vulnerable spot
at running back, (show) that I'm here to stay." There's no
question opportunity is knocking for a second time in
Rhodes' NFL career. It's a direct result of the Colts
allowing James, an offensive cornerstone since '99 and
their career rushing leader, to hit the free agent market,
where he signed a 4-year, $30 million contract with the
Cardinals.
